Like all apps, QuickBooks sometimes locks up.  When QuickBooks locks up, sometimes you have to terminate QuickBooks in non-conventional ways.  If QuickBooks locks up, try the following:

If you’re in a Remote Session (if you’re accessing a remote desktop session or remote server environment)…

  • Save your work and close out of all apps then log off of your session in one of the following ways:
    • Method 1 for signing off of the remote session (preferred method).
      • Click the “Start” button at the bottom left corner of your session.
      • Click the icon that resembles a person.
      • Select “Sign Out”.
      • Remote back into the session and try to run QuickBooks again.
      • If it fails contact Technical Support.
    • Method 2 for signing off of the remote session.
      • Click and hold the CTRL key on your keyboard.  While still holding down the CTRL key, click and hold the ALT key on your keyboard.  While still holding down the CTRL and ALT keys, click and hold the END key on your keyboard.
      • A screen should appear with multiple options.  Select “Sign Out”.
      • Remote back into the session and try to run QuickBooks again.
      • If it fails contact Technical Support.
  • If signing out of the remote session does not work try the following:
    • Right click on an empty of your task bar.  The task bar is the bar where all the app icons show up at the bottom of the screen when you run an app.
    • Select “Task Manager”.
    • The “Task Manager” window is displayed.  Click on the tab labeled “Processes”.  Note that you may not have a “Processes” tab and if you don’t, the processes may already be displayed by default.
    • Find processes with the name “QuickBooks” in them.
    • Right click on each individual process with the name “QuickBooks” and select “End Task” until there are no more processes with the name “QuickBooks”.
    • Try to run QuickBooks again.
    • If this fails, contact Technical Support.

Local Computer (your own system)….

  • Save your work and close out of all apps then restart your computer.
  • If restarting your computer does not work try the following:
    • Right click on an empty of your task bar.  The task bar is the bar where all the app icons show up at the bottom of the screen when you run an app.
    • Select “Task Manager”.
    • The “Task Manager” window is displayed.  Click on the tab labeled “Processes”.
    • Find processes with the name “QuickBooks” in them.
    • Right click on each individual process with the name “QuickBooks” and select “End Task” until there are no more processes with the name “QuickBooks”.
    • Try to run QuickBooks again.
    • If this fails, contact Technical Support.
