< Back

When using NextCloud or OwnCloud, if you attempt to connect the instance to a Windows share via the External Storage “app” and see the following message –  ”  “smbclient” is not installed. Mounting of “SMB / CIFS”, “SMB / CIFS using OC login” is not possible.  “, it means that the smbclient has not been installed to the server.  To install the smbclient do the following and then reboot the server:

  •  Log in to the Linux server.
  •  Type “sudo apt update”
  •  Type “sudo apt install smbclient”
  •  Type “sudo apt install php-smbclient”.
  •  Reboot the server.
  •  Go into NextCloud or OwnCloud and then into the External Storage app and the message should now be gone.  At this point you should be able to connect to a Windows share (SMB/CIFS) via the External Storage app.
